In April 2023, the famous and critically acclaimed British singer Fink, together with Guy Sternberg, producer at LowSwing Records, went into the studio to record what would later become “The LowSwing Sessions.”
Fink later wrote: “The session was the catalyst for musical desire ... a few days in a real recording studio with some friends, outstanding session musicians, and nothing else on my mind but singing and playing.”
The “outstanding” musicians Fink refers to are among the best musicians of all time: Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie’s bassist on “Black Star”), drummer Earl Harvin (Seal, Jeff Beck), Tomer Moked-Blum (Patricia Kaas), Haggai Cohen-Milo, and Doron Segal.
During the two-day session, Fink and the band recorded some of Fink’s favorite tracks by Bowie and The Smiths, some of Guy’s favorite tracks by Soundgarden and Little Feat, as well as a few of Fink’s own classics. The album was recorded and mixed at Tritonus, one of Berlin’s oldest studios, where Nick Cave, Erasure, Element of Crime, and many others have also recorded their albums. The recordings were made on a 2-inch, 24-track Studer A827 and mixed on a Studer A80 ½-inch machine at 30 ips.
This album was produced in collaboration with Brinkmann Audio, a high-end manufacturer of the world’s finest turntables and audio components. LowSwing Recordings records and mixes on analog tape and then cuts directly to vinyl. No computers, digital mixes, or AD/DA conversions are used in mastering. The album utilizes LowSwing’s unique collection of vintage equipment and instruments from the 1960s and 1970s, many of which have been adapted to meet the studio’s exacting standards.
LowSwing Records is a record label dedicated to the love of music in analog format. LowSwing recordings are recorded and mixed on analog tape and then cut directly to vinyl. The heart of the label is the LowSwing Recording Studio in Berlin (www.lowswing.de), where owner Guy Sternberg records, mixes, and produces exciting new artists with the production values of yesteryear.
